Fobi Device Instructions

Loop Insights’ Fobi device is an NFC-enabled gateway designed to sit between your Point-of-Sale terminal and Printer.

Before beginning installation, check to ensure you have the necessary equipment:

  • Fobi device
  • Fobi power cable
  • Power adapter (UK three-prong to NA two-prong plug-in adapter)
  • USB Cable (2.0)
  • Mounting accessories (velcro, zip ties)

In addition to what was shipped to you along with your Fobi device, you will require:

  • A USB-compatible PoS device
  • A nearby power source (Mention we use NA plug-in, sending them an adapter)
  • A compatible printer (and the existing cable running between your PoS terminal and printer)

Fobi Installation

  • Turn off your retail receipt printer.
  • Unplug the USB cable from the receipt printer (not from the POS) and connect this USB cable to the Fobi device’s “B” port.
  • Connect one end of the USB cable provided to the second port on the Fobi.
  • Connect the other end of this USB cable to the receipt printer.
  • Using the power adapter provided, connect the Fobi device to an available power socket. A green light should display on the device.
  • Mount the Fobi in an appropriate place utilizing the provided mounting accessories. The recommended location is velcroed to the side of the receipt printer.

Testing

  1. After connecting the Fobi device, attempt to print a regular PoS receipt. 
  2. If you are unable to print a receipt after connecting the Fobi device, or if an error message appears on the POS: 
    1. Push the small black switch on the side of the Fobi switch sideways with your thumb until it clicks into place.
    2. Verify that green and red lights are visible coming from the Fobi.
  3. If still unable to print, scan the QR code on the device to visit the troubleshooting page or visit: https://www.fobi.ai/fobi-support/
  4. If still experiencing issues, contact your account manager or send an email to “support@fobi.ai” to receive a detailed email response.

Fobi Troubleshooting

  1. If you are unable to print a receipt after connecting the Fobi device, or if an error message appears on the POS: 
    1. Push the small black switch on the side of the Fobi switch sideways with your thumb until it clicks into place.
    2. Verify that green and red lights are visible coming from the Fobi.
  2. Turn on the receipt printer and print any receipt via the POS software to test system functionality. It should print as it would normally.
  3. If still unable to print, scan the QR code on the device to visit the troubleshooting page or visit: https://www.fobi.ai/fobi-support/
